The Warren and District Junior Rugby League club hit the road to Dubbo refreshed after the holiday break.
The Warren Polocrosse mighty midget under sevens provided plenty of action despite being a bit depleted in numbers. Jye Herring made easy metres every time he touched the ball and Campbell Woolnough carved up the opposition to score a double. Ben Martin led from the front with his tackles and scintillating runs while Kane Horsington made tackle after tackle. Earl Greenaway mixed things up with slick footwork and bootlace tackles. Well done boys.
The under nines were also down on troops but rallied to put on one of their best performances to date. Congratulations to John Herring on scoring his maiden try and Isaiah Darcy set the defence up beautifully time after time to score. Blake Andrews scored his second try for the year through his step and sheer pace and Travis Leach played his usual tough and high-class game. Daniel Stanley must be in triple figures for try scoring, while Zac Kelly-Gale was uncompromising and showed a lot of heart. Supergirl Bradey Leach was up there with the best of them in hit-ups and always looked threatening with the ball. Morgan Flynn backed up superbly and did a great job at dummy half and Jason McClenahan took his backyard footy to the field and scored a beautiful try.
With the Jason Williams Contracting under 10s having a bye the Brett Brouff Earthmoving under 12s were next on stage. A determined side took the field against fourth-placed Dubbo Eastridge with Warwick McMaster leading the team in defence and the Dubbo side unable to get rid of the ball quickly enough. Will Leach, Dylan Walters, Thomas and Craig Field made plenty of ground with Thomas first to post points for the side. He crossed again a short time later from a set move and the floodgates opened. Bradley Smith scored a smart try from dummy half and Will Flynn enjoyed his move into the middle and pulled off some great tackles. Will Day looked good at pivot providing plenty of variety in attack, while Craig Field gets better and better in his role at five-eight. Ben Marks scored less than his usual quota of tries with four on the day. James Darcy also played at his best while Johnnie McKay found the mark with his goal kicking and also made a fantastic try-saving tackle. Matt Woolnough stepped up from the under 10s and had a blinder, defusing kicks under pressure and almost scoring on a couple of occasions in a super effort. Dylan Walters crashed over for his first and well-deserved try of the year. The final score was 42-6 and the game was a great warm up for this week’s contest against second-placed PCYC.
This week we are back in Dubbo and with only four rounds to go things are really heating up for the competition sides. The under 10s are still sitting pretty at the top of the table while the under 12s are still a chance of taking second position. The minis will continue to provide plenty of entertainment. Our final home game is on Saturday August 9 not Saturday August 2 as previously stated.
